Volleyball: Pierz topples Maple Lake to clinch top-two finish in CMC

Pierz toppled visiting Maple Lake 25-17, 25-17, 13-25, 25-23 to clinch a top-two finish in the Central Minnesota Conference (CMC), Tuesday.

Junior Bridget Bednar blasted 18 kills to lead the Pioneers’ offense, with senior Anna Welle contributing six and junior Tiara Hopkins adding four.

Senior Brook Brausen and sophomore Jessica Hawks each distributed 12 set assists in the match and Hopkins posted a team-high 17 digs.

CMC leader Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa (BBE) is in action Wednesday against Eden-Valley Watkins.

With a win, BBE would win the CMC outright. With a loss, BBE and Pierz would split the conference title.

Pierz is off until the start of Section 6AA play, Friday, Oct. 26.
