Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 20, at First Baptist Church in Pillager, with the Rev. Paul R. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Wildwood Cemetery in Pillager.
Grace Ila Nygren was born Dec. 4, 1919, in Bemidji, to Charley and Frances (Lundberg) Wilson. She grew up in the Pine River/Pequot Lakes area. While working in Motley, she met Alvah Nygren of rural Motley and they were united in marriage, Sept. 30, 1938, in Minneapolis. They made their home in Leader. The couple operated the General Store there until 1959. They then moved to Motley and operated the S & N Hardware Store with Art Sampson. Later, they bought Art Sampson’s store and operated S & N Hardware together until shortly after Alvah passed away in November 1978. Grace stayed at their home along the Crow Wing River until 1986, when she sold the home and moved to Brainerd. Grace enjoyed her retirement with an occasional bus tour and visiting with friends over a cup of coffee and some cookies.
Grace is survived by her sister-in-law, Jane McHale of Brainerd; many nieces; nephews; great nieces and great-nephews.
Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Alvah; and infant daughter, Patricia.
Pallbearers were Jim Nygren, Rob Maki, Dana Koth, John Lundberg, Joe Mudgett and Jacob Nygren.
