Football: Thief River Falls breaks away from Little Falls in second half

The Little Falls football team controlled Tuesday’s Section 8AAA quarterfinal at Thief River Falls (TRF) early, building a 14-6 lead in the opening minutes of the second quarter.
But the Prowlers tied the score in the final minute of the first half, then kept the momentum throughout the second, scoring 35 unanswered points en route to a 41-14 win.
Junior Jalen Wuchko got the Flyers on the board first just two minutes into the game, running the ball in from 11 yards out.
TRF cut the gap to 7-6 later on in the first quarter, but Little Falls added another touchdown on a 44-yard strike from senior Spencer Fenske to senior Austin Bjorge in the second quarter, with sophomore Thomas Bell adding his second extra point to make it 14-6.
Wuchko paced the Little Falls offense with 117 yards on 18 rushes.
Fenske completed 4-of-11 passes for 71 yards, with senior Collin Eckman catching two passes for 21 yards.
Junior Trysten Ross made 13 tackles and senior Jordan Petrone made 11 to lead the Little Falls defense, while senior Randy Olson recorded three stops and recovered a fumble.
The Flyers finished the season with a 3-6 record.
Seniors on this year’s team included Eckman, Petrone, Bjorge, Fenske, Josh Wenzel, Collin Gradin, Olson, Isaiah Korver, Jordan Geise, David Copa, Seth Wester and Robert Reller.
