The Upsala-Swanville Area (USA) football team’s defense made it even harder to find the end zone, shutting out visiting Osakis 20-0 in Tuesday’s Section 6AA quarterfinals.

The Patriots controlled the game from the start, with junior Mitch Lange scoring the first of two touchdowns to put USA ahead 7-0 after the first quarter.

Senior Brock Cichon followed with a pair of field goals in the next two quarters and Lange registered his second touchdown in the third quarter to provide more than enough points for the Patriots’ defense.

Lange led USA on both sides of the ball, rushing for 127 yards on 22 carries while making 16 solo tackles and assisting on two others.

Senior Austin Mollner contributed 72 yards on the ground and senior Eric Frieler rushed for 36 and passed for 69 while also picking off a pass on defense.

Senior Garrett Wolf hauled in four passes for 58 yards and senior Colten Kruzel made a 19-yard reception.

Senior Alec Griffith posted eight solo tackles and five assists and Mollner recorded a sack.

USA, the fourth seed in Section 6AA, will now travel to top-seeded Crosby-Ironton for Saturday’s semifinals. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Kickoff was originally scheduled for 7 p.m., but has been moved ahead to 6 p.m.
