To the Editor:
U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar is running for re-election. Her opponent is Kurt Bills, a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives. Where do they stand on life issues?
Taxpayer funding of abortions: Minnesota taxpayers fund abortions. Federal bans are limited.
Klobuchar voted against a ban on taxpayer funding of abortion in a new federal insurance program (the “public option”) and in subsidies to provide health insurance.
Kurt Bills voted for a ban on taxpayer funding of abortion.
Embryo-destructive research: Embryonic stem cell research requires the killing of human embryos. Some researchers (including at the University of Minnesota) are seeking to clone and kill human embryos for experimentation.
Klobuchar voted in favor of mandating federal funding of the type of stem cell research that requires the killing of human embryos.
Kurt Bills voted against taxpayer funding of human cloning; voted for a ban on human cloning and committed to protecting human embryos, the very beginning of human life.
It’s clear that Kurt Bills is the only candidate who respects the right to life. He’s also the only one against using taxpayer money to kill human embryos, the very beginning of human life.
