Peter Newman, 86
Peter “Pete” Newman, age 86, a resident of Pierz, passed away Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at the Pierz Villa in Pierz.
A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, Nov. 8, at Zion Lutheran Church in Little Falls, with the Rev. Gary Hendrickson officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Pierz.
Peter was born Aug. 16, 1926, in Pierz, the son of Joseph and Anne (Kelzenberg) Newman. He grew up in the Pierz area where he attended grade school. He then graduated from Little Falls High School, Class of 1943. He was united in marriage to Ardus Siemers, June 16, 1950, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Little Falls. The couple made their home in Little Falls where they lived for four years. They then moved to Pierz where they resided at the time of Pete’s death. Pete was an auctioneer in Morrison and surrounding counties for most of his life. He was an avid baseball player playing for a number of local teams until age 35. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing and a good game of cards. He still holds the record for the low score of 31 at the Pierz Golf Course. Pete was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Little Falls, former member of the Pierz Golf Course and a former Director of the Farmers and Merchants Bank of Pierz. Pete was a member of the 1949 Baseball State Championship team, The Little Falls Red Sox. He also won three of the Major State Amateur Golf tournaments.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ardus Newman of Pierz; two grand-nieces, Casey Hall and Christina Hall, both of Sugarland, Texas and many good friends.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, John Michael “Mickey” Newman in 1968.
