Brown sentenced to five years in prison for kidnapping
Randall John Brown, 29, St. Cloud, was convicted Nov. 2, in Morrison County District Court with one felony count of kidnapping, committing great bodily harm and terrorizing.
On Aug. 10, 2011, the Kimball police chief went to a residence in Cushing to talk with Brown about an incident that occurred in Kimball. When he arrived, he discovered an adult male who had been badly beaten.
The investigation revealed Brown had invited the victim and another person, who has a child with Brown, to the residence to celebrate a birthday. During the night, the victim was bound and beaten.
The victim was taken to the Staples Hospital where it was discovered he had a broken rib and collapsed lung. The doctors said that without prompt medical treatment, he would have died.
Brown was sentenced to five years in the St. Cloud Correctional Facility, fined $185 and ordered to pay restitution totalling $15,955.75. He will be required to register as a predatory offender.
Dismissed against Brown was one felony count of first degree assault. Assistant County Attorney Todd Kosovich said the dismissal was due to Brown pleading guilty to the more serious offense of kidnapping.
