Louis Haugerud convicted of domestic assault
In the Seventh Judicial District Court of Morrison County, Louis Darnell Haugerud, 26, Little Falls, was convicted Oct. 31, of one felony count of domestic assault.
On Sept. 5, Morrison County sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence where a reported assault was taking place.
The victim told officers that when a verbal argument occurred after Haugerud and others had drank most of a 24-pack of beer, she told him to leave her house.
Haugerud returned between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. and broke in. The victim, who was pregnant, told officers the argument escalated and he began assaulting her.
Officers placed Haugerud under arrest. He admitted kicking in the door, yelling and screaming, but claimed he did not touch her in any manner.
After he was transported to jail, Haugerud became upset and threatened one of the arresting deputies.
An investigation of Haugerud’s criminal record showed convictions for domestic assault from July 11, 2004, Oct. 19, 2004, Aug. 31, 2007 and Sept. 13, 2009.
Haugerud was sentenced to the correctional facility in St. Cloud for 18 months, stayed for five years and 90 days in jail with credit for 57 days already served. He was fined $135 and given supervised probation for five years.
