Grace Covenant Church welcomes new director

Michael Tuszynski has been named the new youth and music director at Grace Covenant Church in Little Falls. The position is new to the church and Tuszynski, who has a degree in youth ministry from Colorado Christian University in Lakewood, Colo., said he is happy to be in Little Falls.

“The people at Grace Covenant have been very welcoming since my wife Amaia and I arrived. We feel loved,” he said.

Michael Tuszynski is both the new contemporary music and youth director at Grace Covenant Church, starting his position Oct. 8. He and his wife Amaia are enjoying exploring Central Minnesota.

Tuszynski said Grace Church had sensed the need for a contemporary service, so they looked for a music director to fill that niche. There was also the need for a youth minister, so the church combined the two.

Tuszynski saw the ad online and the rest is history.

While only 24 years old, Tuszynski said he has been active in worship ministry for about 10 years, during high school and with Campus Crusade for Christ while he was in college.

“I was born in Allentown, Pa., and grew up in eastern Pennsylvania and in Kansas in a Christian family,” he said. “I knew Christ at an early age.”

His said his activities at Grace Covenant Church are about 65 percent youth ministry and 35 percent music director.

“The youth ministry of Grace Church is restructuring,” he said. “Its prior focus was on fellowship. It is now looking to develop its programming from its mission statement: ‘The Grace Youth Group exists to help build a community of students to grow in God’s love, to engage and serve passionately and to mature into devoted followers of Christ.’”

As Grace Covenant’s contemporary music director, he leads the worship for the contemporary service with both his acoustical guitar and vocally. The service is held at 10:45 a.m. on Sundays.

A more traditional service is held at 8:30 a.m.

“I feel Grace has a great generational mix,” said Tuszynski. “I see all ages attending both services.”

Tuszynski and Amaia married in 2010. She graduated in May with a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education. She is currently looking for a job and working on her Minnesota licensure.

When not working, the Tuszynskis love to hike and read. They are spending a lot of their free time exploring the area.
