Funeral Services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, November 16, 2012 at St. Mary’s Orthodox Cathedral, Minneapolis for Nicole K. Kunkel, age 43, who passed away Sunday at her home. Reverend Father Benjamin Tucci will officiate. Friends and family may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids and after 11:00 a.m. Friday at the church in Minneapolis. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Nicole was born April 10, 1969, in Minneapolis to George and Barbara (LaFlamme) Skrbich. She married Stephen Kunkel, July 27, 2002, at the Holy Myrrh-bearers Orthodox Church in St. Cloud. Nicole grew up in the Mounds View/NE Minneapolis area. She was a teacher at Royalton High School for 12 years. Nicole loved teaching and working with children of all ages. She was an “environmental crusader” taking every possible opportunity she had to teach others about the outdoors. Nicole was affiliated with St. Mary’s Orthodox Cathedral where she was involved in the choir and counseling at summer camps. She enjoyed being outdoors at all times partaking in activities such as bicycling, mountain biking, cross country and downhill skiing, backpacking, hiking, camping and kayaking. Nicole was adventurous and fearless in life. She had a love for sailing, canoeing, motorcycling and coaching and running cross country.
Survivors include her husband, Steve of Sauk Rapids; sons, Andrew (Jana) of Biscay and Daniel of St. Cloud; parents, George and Barbara Skrbich of Mounds View; sister, Stefanie Skrbich of Blaine; and grandchildren, Natalie, Dylin and Ethan.
