After going 8-8 in Prairie Conference play a year ago, the Royalton girls basketball team will turn to several new faces as it looks to post a winning mark this winter.

Royalton graduated seven starters from a year ago, but returns three starters in seniors Kandy Meyer (point guard) and Kalee Petron (post) and junior Emily Fussy (wing).

Looking to step into the lineup and contribute are senior Hannah Fussy (post), juniors Courtney Popp (post), Jacquline Nichols (wing) and Alexis Martinez (wing) and sophomore Haley Olson (wing).

Graduates from last year’s team included Megan Wiener, Bridget Tschida, Allison Popp, Amy Vannurden, Erika Zimmerman, Heather Tiemann and Kathy Hohmann.

“We graduated heavy and need to rely on players with little or no varsity time,” Royalton head coach Jeff Schoenrock said. “If we get a few players to step up we can be dangerous.”

Royalton opens the season at Kimball Area, Tuesday, with its home opener against St. John’s Prep, Dec. 4.
