Boys Hockey: Stumpf saves 35 as Little Falls shuts out Hibbing in opener

The 10th-ranked Little Falls boys hockey team scored once in each period to earn a 3-0 season-opening win at Hibbing-Chisholm, Friday.

Senior Matthew Stumpf opened the scoring 5:10 into the game, assisted by seniors Luke Majerle and Austin Bjorge.

That lead held until deep into the second period, when sophomore Austin Fenske assisted senior August Maciej on his first goal of the year.

Senior Ben Newman added an empty-net score with 50 seconds remaining to seal the win, with Bjorge and Majerle each recording their second assists.

Hibbing-Chisholm outshot Little Falls 35-26, but senior goaltender Michael Stumpf turned away all 35 shots to earn the shutout victory.

Little Falls plays at Virginia, Friday.
