The Holdingford girls basketball team played visiting Long Prairie-Grey Eagle evenly throughout the first half of Tuesday’s season opener.

But after carrying a slim 31-29 edge into the break, the Thunder pulled away in the second half on their way to a 72-53 win.

Senior Jena Volkers recorded 19 points and eight rebounds to pace the Huskers, joined in double figures by junior Sam Maciej (14) and sophomore Joelle Ertl (13).

Sophomore Kaitlyn Hellman added four points and sophomore Chelsey Gerads chipped in three.

Holdingford plays at Albany, Thursday.
