Tina Scherping, the assistant branch manager at Pine Country Bank in Little Falls, was chosen as the December Employee of the Month by the Little Falls Area Chamber of Commerce.
Scherping has been with Pine Country Bank for nine and a half years, but in the banking business for 14 years.
“I got into banking just after I married Allen Scherping,” she said. “I had worked for the Dairy Queen in Long Prairie for 12 years, but was looking for a different career with steady hours and benefits. The First State Bank of Swanville had an opening, I applied and started as a teller.”
Scherping, who has a degree in hotel and restaurant management and a history of working with money and in customer service during her time with Dairy Queen, was a perfect fit with the bank.
She stayed with the Swanville Bank for just over four years and left to advance her career and banking knowledge at Pine Country.
“I started in Royalton as a drive-up teller, then moved to the Little Falls branch three months later,” she said. “For more than four years I worked in new accounts, as a teller and customer service representative and I also proofed daily operations. I then became the assistant branch manager and have been in this position for five years.”
President of Pine Country Bank Rob Ronning, said of Scherping, “The bank congratulates Tina on her nomination as the Chamber Employee of the Month. Tina does a great job for our customers and we are pleased to have her as part of the Pine Country Bank staff.”
As assistant branch manager, Scherping oversees the tellers and ensures customers’ direct deposits are being made. She is in charge of both all deposits to the Little Falls branch and with customer service.
“I view the negative account reports daily and make calls to our customers if their deposits have not come through,” Scherping said. “I ensure deposits run smoothly.”
The best part of working at the bank, Scherping said, is helping customers with finances.
“When people come in for help, I enjoy doing it,” she said. “I have a regular customer who comes in each month to have me reconcile her account. She is so grateful, it’s very gratifying. People are so appreciative when they are helped.”
Scherping said she loves her job because she visits with people and gets to know them, not just help them with banking issues.
“I am a people person and love to visit,” she said.
She said the hardest part of her job is managing the tellers’ schedules.
“We are a family-oriented bank and I want to accommodate everyone’s schedules. I want to make sure each person is able to get to their child’s football games or doctor appointments.”
She also said she would not be able to do her job as well as she does without the great team of employees at Pine Country.
Scherping and Allen have two children. Alita, 12, is involved in Just for Kix, volleyball and softball. Brady, 10, belongs to Junior Victory League in Swanville and previously with Long Prairie, and gets together with others his age to play football and baseball Saturday mornings.
They both attend Swanville Schools.
Scherping loves to read mysteries, suspense and romance novels. She also loves to walk, usually traveling one – three miles at home along with entering several 5K races.
She and Allen just bought a motorcycle and plan to investigate Minnesota on the bike.
“We are just getting into it,” she said.
As a family, they all love to camp, mostly on Cedar Lake in Upsala, but have also gone to Wisconsin and parts of Minnesota. Scherping said a trip to the Black Hills is in the near future.
For being named the December Employee of the Month, Scherping received gift certificates from Broadway Stylists, Perkin’s and Pizza Ranch restaurants and Falls Floral. She also will have her photo taken by Silker Studio and will receive a cookbook from St. Gabriel’s Hospital Hospice Program.
