The Little Falls “Occ-U-Pie” is calling for an action at Bank Square, downtown Little Falls at noon Monday, Dec. 10.
In honor of Human Rights Day, Monday, Dec. 10, the World March of Women (WMW), in conjunction with Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF), has called for women around the world to organize a one-hour action, from noon – 1 p.m., highlighting the values of equality, justice, freedom, solidarity and peace and showing resistance against militarization.
These values are reflected in the WMW’s global charter for humanity as a vision of the type of world women want, said Robin Hensel, one of the event organizers.
“Because of our common values, WILPF and the Cuba and Bolivarian Alliance Issue Committee have been part of the WMW network that is composed of hundreds of feminist organizations in five different continents including the United States,” she said.
Occ-U-Pie will also host a showing of the film “Pink Smoke Over the Vatican” at the Carnegie Library beginning at 4 p.m., that day. This film depicts the struggles to achieve women’s ordination in the Catholic Church.
The groups are calling for a pie potluck. “The first of many to come,” said Hensel. “Bring your favorite pie, including spinach, quiche, pizza, banana cream, pecan or whatever your favorite is.”
Hot coffee and other beverage will be supplied. A discussion will follow the movie showing.
The public is welcome, free of charge. Those who cannot afford to bring a pie are invited to come anyway.
“Now is the time to come together,” said Hensel.
