Boys Basketball: Royalton pulls away from Holdingford in second half to win opener

After a close first half, Royalton pulled away from visiting Holdingford down the stretch to earn a 63-46 win in Friday’s season opener for both squads.

Royalton held a 28-22 advantage at the half and maintained control deep into the second half.

The Huskers closed within eight points late, but when forced to press to try to close the gap, the Royals capitalized and put the game out of reach.

Senior Luke Wentland had 19 points and eight rebounds to lead the Royals in the paint, while senior Stephen Strusz sank 4-of-6 three-point attempts in a 16-point performance.

Senior Matt Silbernick tallied a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, followed offensively by seniors Lucas Snyder (7), Justin Opatz (4) and Brad Woidyla (2).

Senior Taylor Milbrandt led Holdingford with nine points, while seniors Sam Butler and Cody Schwinghammer scored seven apiece and junior Jeremy Springer had five points and 10 rebounds.

Royalton plays at Kimball Area and Holdingford travels to Sauk Centre, Tuesday.
