Three players reached double figures as the Pierz boys basketball team rolled to a 58-36 season-opening triumph at Foley, Tuesday.

Seniors Cullin Carter (14) and Jess Kasper (12) combined for 26 points and each grabbed seven rebounds, while junior Matt Athman had 11 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks to pace the Pioneers.

Seniors Ben Boser and Josh Templin each added nine points and teamed up to pass out eight assists, with junior Noah Thomsen (2) and freshman Aaron Weber (1) rounding out the scoring.

“I thought we had an excellent defensive effort,” Pierz head coach Matt Poepping said. “The boys played hard and won the 50-50 balls, which you love to see as a coach.”

Pierz hosts Paynesville Area, Friday.
