Girls Basketball: Upsala breezes past Long Prairie-Grey Eagle in opener

The Upsala girls basketball team sprinted to a 39-15 halftime lead before easing to a 67-46 season-opening win at Long Prairie-Grey Eagle, Tuesday.

Seniors Aimee Pelzer and Tracy Herzog turned in double-doubles for the Cardinals, with Pelzer recording 27 points and 10 rebounds and Herzog delivering 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Eight other Cardinals added offense, including senior Alissa Zehrer (7), sophomores Danica Cheney (4) and Sara Herzog (4), juniors Kaelin Smieja (4) and Katie Ripplinger (3), senior Sadie Welinski (2) and sophomores Brooke Westrich (2) and Kristin Wuebkers (2).

Ripplinger grabbed eight rebounds, Zehrer pulled down five and Welinski distributed three assists.

Upsala plays at Pillager, Thursday.
