Gymnastics: Little Falls opens season versus defending state champion Melrose

Little Falls eighth-grader Shania Rossum springs off the vault during Tuesday’s home meet against Melrose Area to open the season. Rossum placed ninth in the event with a score of 7.8.

Junior Rachelle LeBlanc won the balance beam and earned second place in her remaining three events to lead the Little Falls gymnastics team in its season opener against defending state champion Melrose Area, Tuesday.

The visiting Dutchmen won the meet 141.725-122.4.

LeBlanc and Melrose junior Jailyn Brinkman swept the top two spots in all four events and the all-around.

LeBlanc won the beam with a score of 9.25 and took second on floor (9.2), bars (9.0), vault (8.8) and in the all-around (36.25).

Senior Amanda Hanson placed fourth in the all-around with a total of 30.15, highlighted by a fifth-place individual finish on vault (8.5).

Little Falls hosts Rush City, Friday.
