Girls Basketball: Pierz erases 17-point deficit to defeat Paynesville

Pierz didn’t make its first field goal until 5:43 remaining in the opening half, digging itself a 17-point hole against visiting Paynesville Area, Friday.

Still, the Pioneers stuck around, whittling the deficit to 32-27, then sneaking past the Bulldogs down the stretch in a 61-58 victory.

Senior Megan Boser scored 17 points and sophomore Kayla Carter netted 13 to lead Pierz, with senior Alyssa Boser scoring 11 points, including two key free throws to seal the win in the closing seconds.

Junior Bridget Bednar followed with eight points, while seniors Mickey Rocheleau and Elizabeth Tomala and junior Tiara Hopkins contributed four apiece.

Carter led Pierz with seven rebounds and Alyssa Boser passed out six assists.

Pierz hosts Rockford Area, Tuesday.
