Boys Basketball: Shutdown defense keeps Pierz undefeated against Pequot Lakes

Pierz prevented its opponent from reaching 50 points for the third game in a row, Tuesday, topping host Pequot Lakes 47-39 to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Senior Cullin Carter tallied 17 points and six rebounds and senior Ben Boser netted 14 points to spark the Pierz attack.

Senior Jess Kasper followed with seven points and seven rebounds, junior Matt Athman recorded four points, eight rebounds and four blocks and seniors Josh Templin (3) and Mitch Bednar (2) also scored.

“It was a good defensive win,” Pierz head coach Matt Poepping said. “We know we won’t fill the bucket a whole lot, but defense should never take a night off.”

Pierz hosts Little Falls, Saturday.
