Girls Basketball: Pierz opens CMC season with win over Rockford

The Pierz girls basketball team opened Central Minnesota Conference (CMC) play with a 71-64 victory over visiting Rockford Area, Tuesday.

Junior Bridget Bednar drained 19 points, senior Alyssa Boser scored 14 and senior Mickey Rocheleau posted a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds to pace the Pioneers.

Junior Tiara Hopkins was the next top scorer with eight points, followed by senior Megan Boser (7), sophomore Kayla Carter (5), senior Elizabeth Tomala (4) and junior Kailey Egan (2).

Megan Boser pulled down nine rebounds and Tomala picked up seven steals.

“We played great as a team,” Pierz head coach Rich Teske said. “We shot the ball well as a team, finishing around the basket.”

Pierz plays at ninth-ranked Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, Friday.
