Swanville wore down Pillager in the second half for the second time this season, Monday, leading to a 59-40 win in the opening round of the Pillager tournament.
The Bulldogs carried a slim 27-23 lead into the half before breaking open the game in the second half.
Senior Marissa Evans led the Swanville attack, registering a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds, with senior Tiffany Barthel helping guide the offense with 14 points and five assists.
Also scoring for Swanville were junior Nikki Primus (6), senior Abbey Schultz (5), sophomores Danica Hanson (4) and Steph Koetter (3) and seniors Rachel Muhlenkamp (2) and Chloee Larson (1), with Hanson recording four steals.
“We were able to create some turnovers which led to some fast break points,” Swanville head coach Aaron Gapinski said. “I have been pleased with our intensity and effort as of late. The girls continue to work hard each practice and game and because of this we are starting to see results.”
