Girls Basketball: Royalton nearly erases late 14-point deficit, edged by Verndale

Royalton cut a 14-point deficit to two with two minutes to play, but couldn’t quite overtake Verndale in Monday’s first round of the Pillager tournament, falling 54-48.

Senior Kalee Petron scored 16 points and senior Kandy Meyer and junior Jacquline Nichols each added 10 to lead the Royals.

Sophomore Haley Olson netted six points and juniors Emily Fussy, Lulu Martinez and Courtney Popp each contributed two.
