Behind the 17 points of junior Bridget Bednar and combined 23 from seniors Alyssa Boser and Mickey Rocheleau, the Pierz girls basketball team held off visiting Melrose Area 64-57, Tuesday.

Bednar also had six rebounds and five assists, Boser dished out eight assists and Rocheleau grabbed eight rebounds.

Senior Megan Boser was the next leading scorer with eight points, senior Elizabeth Tomala and junior Tiara Hopkins each had six and junior Kailey Egan and sophomore Kayla Carter chipped in two apiece.

“We played good defense at times in the game,” Pierz head coach Rich Teske said. “We moved the ball around and ate them up in the post.  Melrose closed it down the stretch, but we hit some big shots to close out the game.”

Pierz hosts Eden Valley-Watkins, Thursday.
