Boys Basketball: Holdingford reaches St. John’s title game, falls in overtime to Eden Valley-Watkins in finals

The Holdingford boys basketball team defeated Onamia and Carlton in the first two rounds of the St. John’s Prep tournament,  then dropped a narrow contest in overtime to Eden Valley-Watkins (EVW) in the finals.

 

Holdingford 52, Onamia 36

Senior Alex Hiltner scored 13 points and senior Brent Gerads tallied 11 as Holdingford opened with a 52-36 victory over Onamia, Thursday.

Senior Taylor Milbrandt followed with eight points and senior Cody Schwinghammer scored seven.

 

Holdingford 53, Carlton 35

The Huskers sailed again in the semifinals, topping Carlton 53-35, Friday.

Hiltner again led the way with 17 points, with Schwinghammer and senior Dylan Scegura adding eight apiece.

 

EVW 53, Holdingford 51

In a low-scoring battle that will be repeated two more times this winter in Central Minnesota Conference play, EVW edged Holdingford 53-51 in overtime in the championship game, Saturday.

Junior Jeremy Springer provided 14 points to lead Holdingford, Hiltner and Schwinghammer each scored eight and Scegura and Milbrandt contributed six apiece.
