A 29-point performance from senior Aimee Pelzer, and a key 11-0 run midway through the game, helped the Upsala girls basketball team fend off Osakis 45-37, Thursday.
With the game going back-and-forth early and the visiting Silverstreaks within two at 20-18 late in the first half, Upsala scored the final seven points of the first half and the first four in the second to build a 13-point cushion at 31-18.
Osakis rallied to pull within five at 33-28, but couldn’t close the gap any further as the Cardinals held on for the win to improve to 5-0.
After eclipsing 2,000 career points in the Cardinals’ previous game, Pelzer shouldered the bulk of the scoring load for Upsala, shooting 10-of-19 from the field, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Senior Tracy Herzog provided seven points and 12 rebounds in the post.
Sophomore Brooke Westrich added three points and senior Alissa Zehrer and sophomores Danica Cheney and Sara Herzog each contributed two.
With the win, Upsala extended its Prairie Conference winning streak to 49 games, dating back to the 2008-09 season.
Upsala hosts Foley in the first round of its holiday tournament, Thursday at 5:45 p.m.
