Elizabeth Werner, 88
Elizabeth Jayne (Betty) Werner, formerly of Benton Place Apartments, Rice, passed away Dec. 21, 2012, surrounded by loved ones at Riverside Assisted Living in Royalton.
Betty was born in La Crosse, Wis., March 21, 1924, In 1935, her family moved to Minneapolis where she graduated from South High School in 1941. After graduation she worked for the telephone company.
On June 22, 1943, Betty married Gordon “Gordy” Werner of Minneapolis in San Francisco, CA. Gordy’s ship, the USS Saratoga was docked for battle repairs. After World War II, the Werner family moved to Milwaukee, Wis. and then to Detroit, Mich. Betty worked in the Investment Security Department at Packard Motor Corporation. In 1950, the family returned to Minneapolis where Betty worked at Printing, Inc. until 1971. She then attended the Minnesota School of Business and received her degree in accounting. Upon graduation she was employed by Horner Waldorf, which later became Champion International until her retirement in 1986. Betty was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. She loved children and was the ultimate dog lover. Reading was her passion. She also enjoyed crafting, knitting and sewing. She touched so many lives with her kind, loving and generous ways.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Carrol and Lillian (Carlson) Brown; husband Gordy Werner and two sons, Charles and Richard Werner.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Mary Jayne (Jerry) Borene; her honorary son, Dr. Craig (Susan) Pierce; grandchildren, Todd (Pam) Olson, Troy Olson, Sheila Borene, Charles Werner, Jr. and Kevin Pierce; great-grandchildren, Alex and Alyssa Olson, DJ Olson and Devan Borene.
A loving thank you to all who provided such excellent care at Riverside Assisted Living and St. Croix Hospice. They are and always will be our special angels who surrounded us the last couple of years through her journey.
The funeral service was held Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at the Williams Dingman Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids.
