GREAT Children’s Theatre premieres Broadway sets and costumes for ‘Annie’

GREAT Children’s Theatre of St. Cloud has rented sets, costumes and rpops from New York to present the Broadway favorite, “Annie.” Annie will open Friday, Jan. 11, for seven public performances in the Escher Auditorium at the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph. GREAT Children’s Theatre, St. Cloud, continues its 15th season with the the Broadway favorite “Annie.” GREAT, in partnership with Fine ArtsProgramming at The College of Saint Benedict, presents a show currently in revival on Broadway, opening at the Escher Auditorium Friday, Jan. 11, for only seven public performances. Annie is being directed and choreographed by Alison Feigh alongside Music Director Hillary Vermillion.  This show features a cast of 52 local central Minnesota actors ranging from age 7 through adult cast through open auditions.

GREAT is excited to be one of the first theatres in the country to rent the set and costumes direct from the Broadway tour of Annie that recently closed. The sets, costumes and props that were designed for the Broadway production were delivered by semi Dec. 21, 2012. This is the first time the group has rented from New York to provide a high quality Broadway design for audiences at a fraction of the cost.

One of the world’s best-loved musicals features Annie, a spunky orphan determined to find her parents, who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan, befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and finds a new family in billionaire OliverWarbucks, his personal secretary Grace Farrell and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

Performances will be held Friday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 12 – 13, at 2 p.m.; Friday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 20, at 2 p.m. All performances will be held in the Escher Auditorium, College of St. Benedict Campus in St. Joseph.
