A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, Jan. 5 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz, with Fr. Ken Popp officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Bernard “Bernie” Kimman was born April 18, 1912, in Clinton, Iowa, to the late Frank and Elizabeth (Boehmer) Kimman. At an early age Bernie moved with his family to Parkston, S.D., where his parents established a dairy farm. His family then moved to Pierz, in 1915 where they purchased a 240-acre farm two miles east of Pierz. Bernie was the fifth child of 12. He attended District #147 Country School which was located directly across the road from the family’s home. After he graduated from school at the age of 16, he returned to the family and worked on the farm. Bernie moved to Rose Court Assisted Living in Pierz in 2000 and into the Pierz Villa in 2008. Bernie enjoyed fishing, gardening and playing cards especially smear. Bernie was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz.
Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Theresa Fischer of Pierz; nephews, nieces and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Elizabeth (Boehmer) Kimman; siblings, Arnold Kimman, Regina Kimman, Clara Wolf, Lawrence Kimman, Frank Kimman, Henry Kimman, Edward Kimman, Herman Kimman, Loretta Fischer and Nick Kimman.
Casketbearers were Alvin Kimman, Paul Kimman, Jamie Fischer, Mark Kimman, Neal Kimman and Jeremy Virnig.
