Girls Basketball: Powerful trio guides Pierz past Holdingford

With a leading trio amassing a combined 54 points and 24 rebounds, the Pierz girls basketball team fended off host Holdingford 79-65, Friday.

Sophomore Kayla Carter posted a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Pioneers, while senior Mickey Rocheleau recorded 18 points and seven rebounds and junior Bridget Bednar had 16 points and six rebounds.

Seniors Alyssa Boser and Megan Boser teamed up for 17 points and 12 assists, with junior Tiara Hopkins logging six points and seven rebounds and sophomore Shelbie Boser chipping in two points.

Holdingford was again led by the duo of senior Jena Volkers and sophomore Joelle Ertl, with Ertl netting 23 points and Volkers scoring 20.

The game remained close deep into the second half, with Pierz leading 34-32 at the break, until the Huskers were forced to foul down the stretch, with Rocheleau hitting 5-of-6 free throws in the closing minutes.
