‘Death by Chocolate’ performances begin Friday, Jan. 25
The Upsala Upstage Players will present the mystery comedy “Death by Chocolate” by Craig Sodaro. Performances will be held Friday, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. All performances are in the Upsala High School auditorium.
The comedy is set around Precious Perks Coffee Shoppe, a business that is struggling after one of its patrons died drinking their signature drink “Death by Chocolate.”
Nick Noir (Bill Davison), a Humphrey Bogart down on his luck private eye, is called in to investigate. Was it murder? If so, who did it? Perhaps it was Coco (Wendy Rene) or Bonbon (Pam Schoon) — the not-so-alike twins that own Precious Perks. It could be the wannabe country singer waitress Bobbie Sue (Rhonda Schmidt), who can’t carry a tune.
What about Francois (Jax Pearson) the Frenchman; Henry (Josh Knudtson) the old man without a wrinkle; the lady in black (Tirzah Wiebolt); the restaurant critic dressed like a bag lady (Rose Mader); or Juniper Berry (Jessica Davison)?
No one is who they appear to be and it is up to Nick, along with his faithful secretary Selma (Lisa Hansen), to crack the case before another murder takes place.
This family friendly show was directed by Leonice Prokott with the assistance of Hannah Knudtson. Tickets are available at the door. The show is produced by special arrangement with Heuer Publishing LLC of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
