Boys Basketball: Pierz ties game with Templin’s last-second three, then tops Kimball in overtime

Senior Josh Templin hit a game-tying three-pointer with half a second remaining to send game into overtime.

The Pierz defense took over from there against visiting Kimball Area, Thursday, outscoring the Cubs 13-4 in the extra session to produce a 54-45 win.

Seniors Cullin Carter and Mitch Bednar guided Pierz down low, with Carter recording 16 points and eight rebounds and Bednar picking up a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Seniors Ben Boser (8), Templin (6), T.J. Hoheisel (5) and Jon Fuhrman (2) and juniors Matt Athman (2) and Noah Thomsen (1) also scored, with Athman grabbing six rebounds.

“It was nice to see the boys come back and not quit,” Pierz head coach Matt Poepping said. “We played with a ton of energy in overtime and came away with a big conference win.”
