Merle T. Dowell, 93

obit-Dowell-MMerle T. Dowell, a resident of Long Prairie, passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Valley View Estates Assisted Living in Long Prairie.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 23, at the Swanville Bible Church in Swanville, with the Rev. David Packo officiating. Burial was in the Moses Dane Cemetery in Burtrum.
Merle T. Dowell was born Sept. 16, 1919, in Watertown, S.D., to the late Thomas Omar and Christine Dowell. He was united in marriage to Evelyn B. Michels, Oct. 20, 1941, in Sauk Centre. Merle and Evelyn briefly resided in Minneapolis and Upsala, before settling on the family dairy farm near Burtrum. After retirement, the couple moved to Grey Eagle. Evelyn passed away in 2005 and Merle moved to an apartment in Long Prairie, where he resided until May 9, 2012. Merle then moved to Valley View Assisted Living in Long Prairie. Merle enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and wintering in Arizona.
Merle is survived by his sons Gerald (Connie) Dowell of Pella, Iowa, Wayne (Wilma) Dowell of Albany, Roger (Dorcas) Dowell of Albany and Larry (Lori) Dowell of Mendota Heights; daughters Donna (Robert) Johnson of Burtrum and Kathryn (John) Pavlicek of Grey Eagle; brother Lloyd Dowell of St. Louis Park; sister-in-law, Adeline Wolbeck of Sauk Centre; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Omar and Christine Dowell; daughter Barbara Russell; brother Leonard Dowell and granddaughter Brigitte Dowell.
Honorary pallbearers were Robert Johnson, John Pavlicek, Matthew Dowell, and Corey Cohen.
Pallbearers were Larry Dowell, Roger Dowell, Wayne Dowell, Gerald Dowell, Robb Johnson, and Michael Russell.
