Garrison woman charged with writing bad checks

Jessica Lynn Bartel, 27, Garrison, was charged Jan. 17, with one felony count of issuing a dishonored check by Morrison County Attorney Brian Middendorf and his staff.

On Nov. 9, 2012, a Pierz company contacted the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office to report they had received three dishonored checks from the Deer Haven Store in Garrison for the sale of fuel.

According to the business in Pierz, the total of the three checks came to $4,536.50 and they were signed by Bartel, the owner of the store.

On Nov. 12, an investigator contacted Bartel and she allegedly admitted she was the owner of the Deer Haven Store and that the three checks came back for non-sufficient funds. She allegedly admitted receiving a notice and demand for payment from the fuel company and admitted not repaying the money.

If convicted, Bartel faces a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and/or a $10,000 fine.
