Nolan adds former State Rep. Al Doty to his congressional staff
Former State Rep. Al Doty has joined U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan’s staff, the 8th District Minnesota Congressman.
Doty, a native of Royalton, served as state representative from District 12B from 2007-2010. A former Royalton City Council member and teacher/head wresting coach at Pierz Healy High School, he was vice chair of the Minnesota House Agriculture, Rural Economics and Veterans Policy Committee.
Doty was offered the position about two weeks ago. “It was easy to accept,” said Doty. “I’ve known Cong. Nolan for many years, since we both started teaching in Morrison County, and I got to know him much better during this past campaign.”
Doty described Nolan as a man of conviction who truly wants to serve his district.
“I’m very pleased to help him do that in this part of a very big district,” Doty said. “My experience with agriculture, veterans, senior citizens and education in this area will help make sure our local voice is heard in Washington.”
In his new capacity, Doty will work closely with Nolan on a wide range of agriculture, rural development, small business and veterans’ issues and projects throughout Crow Wing, Wadena, Hubbard, Cass and Morrison counties.
“Al Doty’s experience in local and state government and education, as well as his lifelong involvement in non-profit and volunteer organizations and wildlife conservation, will be invaluable in our efforts to build and rebuild our small towns, farms and locally owned businesses in this area,” Nolan said. “We will benefit greatly from his wise counsel and advice and I am so proud to have him on our Congressional staff team.”
Doty will be involved in bringing “mobile office” visits to many communities “to make two-way communication with residents easier,” he said.
