LF Council will be asked for go-ahead on splash pad, skate park
Those interested in seeing a splash pad, skate park constructed in Little Falls, are encouraged to attend Monday’s Little Falls City Council meeting. It begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
Committees involved in planning such a recreation area, including the Mayor’s Youth Task Force and the Little Falls Community Recreation Complex Task Force, will request the Council give a nod to move forward.
About 20 acres of land donated by the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) on Heron Road just north of Little Falls has been earmarked as a possible location for the splash pad, skate park.
Little Falls Mayor Cathy VanRisseghem said she’s visited with numerous groups and organizations that have shown support, including the Stand Up 4 U Coalition, the Little Falls Business Association, West Side Improvement Association and Lions Clubs.
VanRisseghem said hundreds of people have shown support at 2012 events such as the Dam Festival, Party in the Parks and Family Fun Day.
“The Council is just being called to approve moving forward,” said VanRisseghem. “To say, ‘Go for it,’ so funding can be sought and a designer sought to design it.”
Just as in Royalton, VanRisseghem said, local volunteers are ready to “get their hands dirty.”
