Darwin Risting, 80

obit-Risting-DDarwin Risting a resident of Little Falls, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 7, at First Lutheran Church in Little Falls, with the Rev. David Sperstad officiating. Burial took place in Oakland Cemetery in Little Falls.

Darwin was born Oct. 30, 1932, in Pipestone, to the late Ernest and Hattie (Erstad) Risting. He grew up and graduated from high school in Balaton, Minn.  continued his education at Mankato State where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree, followed up by a Master’s Degree in Education. In 1955, Darwin was an industrial education and science teacher in Rapidan. On Aug. 25, 1956, Darwin was united in marriage to Ione Myhre. In 1958, he taught math in Brownton, until 1967 when he became a high school principal. In 1969 he took the position of assistant principal at the Little Falls Junior High School/Middle School and stayed there until 1994 when he retired. Darwin was a member of the Lions Club, Sons Of Norway and First Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, telling jokes and Darwin loved to have coffee with his friends at Burger King. He also very much enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family.
Darwin is survived by his son, Tim (Michelle) Risting of Elk River; daughter, Angie (Tim) Murphy of St. Michael; brother, Mel (Fran) Risting of Sioux Falls, S.D.; grandchildren, Tara, Maia, Mitchell, Alison, Meghan, Mackenzie; and “adopted” granddaughter, Kim Gosiak.
Darwin is preceded in death by his wife, Ione Risting; parents, Ernest and Hattie Risting; sisters, Wanda Myhre and Shirley Risting; and brother, Roger Risting.
