Central Minnesota Boys Basketball: Bednar shoulders the load as Pierz topples Holdingford

Four players reached double figures as Pierz delivered a 66-36 drubbing to visiting Holdingford, Jan. 31.

Senior Mitch Bednar led the way, powering the Pioneers with 18 points, 13 rebounds, five blocks and four steals.

Senior T.J. Hoheisel followed with 14 points, senior Cullin Carter netted 11 and senior Ben Boser tallied 10 points and five assists.

Senior Alex Hiltner led the Huskers with nine points.

“The boys came out and played excellent defense and we shot a high percentage from the floor,” Pierz head coach Matt Poepping said. “I thought it was our most complete game so far this year.”

HLWW slips by Pierz again

For the second time this season, Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted (HLWW) earned a narrow victory over Pierz, Tuesday, knocking off the visiting Pioneers 61-57 to secure a firm grip on second place in the Central Minnesota Conference.

Bednar and Carter each had double-doubles for the Pioneers, scoring 19 points apiece and combining for 27 rebounds.

Rockford drops Huskers 52-29

Senior Beau Maciej scored 11 points and sophomore Matt Vasilj added 10 in a 52-29 defeat for Holdingford at Rockford Area, Tuesday.
