Thursday sports recap: Little Falls boys hockey scores seven in final two periods to rout Mora

A recap of area action from Thursday:

Boys Basketball: Little Falls 74, Foley 60

After a tight first half, Little Falls’ offense began clicking in the second, pulling away from visiting Foley for a 74-60 Granite Ridge Conference win.

Senior Collin Eckman led the Flyers with 20 points, followed by senior Jake Scott with 14, sophomore Bryce Zawatzke with 13 and junior Troy Scott with 10.


Girls Basketball: Pierz 62, Holdingford 47

Pierz got off to a red-hot start against visiting Holdingford, building a 31-11 lead on its way to a 62-47 win.

The Pioneers had four players in double figures, led by sophomore Kayla Carter with 14 points.

Sophomore Joelle Ertl tallied a game-high 22 points for Holdingford.


Girls Basketball: Albany 48, Little Falls 33

Albany remained unbeaten in the Granite Ridge Conference with a fierce defensive effort against visiting Little Falls, topping the Flyers 48-33.

Senior Jamie Jenks notched a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds for Little Falls.


Girls Basketball: Browerville 54, Royalton 51; Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 59, Swanville 48

In Prairie Conference action, Royalton lost by one possession 54-51 at Browerville while Swanville fell 59-48 to visiting Long Prairie-Grey Eagle.


Wrestling: Little Falls 63, St. Cloud Apollo 16

The rematch of last year’s Section 8AAA finals was a lopsided contest, with Little Falls routing host St. Cloud Apollo 63-16.

Seniors Connor Scherping, Tyler Gastecki, Joe Reis and Connor Swanson, juniors Dan Mushel and Trysten Ross, sophomore Axel Lange, eighth-grader Josh Beack and seventh-grader A.J. Jenks picked up pins for the Flyers.


Wrestling: Pierz 53, Staples Motley 16; Pierz 67, Browerville 7

Pierz finished the regular season with a pair of convincing wins at Staples Motley, defeating the host Cardinals 53-16 and Browerville 67-7.

The Pioneers finish the regular season with a 25-3 record and will be in action at home in the Section 7A quarterfinals, Tuesday.


Wrestling: Royalton-Upsala 63, West Central Area 6

Royalton-Upsala dropped only one dual to defeat visiting West Central Area 63-6.

Senior Cory Wensmann earned his 75th career win.

The Royals will wrestle at Minneapolis Patrick Henry in Tuesday’s Section 7A quarterfinals.


Wrestling: Holdingford 59, Eden Valley-Watkins 15

Holdingford wrapped up the regular season on an 11-match win streak with a 59-15 victory over visiting Eden Valley-Watkins.

The Huskers earned the top seed in Section 7A and will host a quarterfinal match, Tuesday.


Boys Hockey: Little Falls 7, Mora 2

Following a scoreless first period, the Little Falls offense came alive with four in the second and three more in the third to defeat visiting Mora/Hinckley-Finlayson 7-2.

Senior Spencer Fenske recorded two goals and three assists for the Flyers.
