Bednar posted another double-double with 24 points and 13 rebounds to lead Pierz past host Staples Motley 60-46, Tuesday.

Carter was the next leading scorer with 13 points, followed by senior Ben Boser with eight.

Senior Jon Fuhrman chipped in three points and five assists.

 

Upsala 76, St. John’s Prep 44

Pekarek passed the 1,000-point threshold for his career as Upsala breezed past host St. John’s Prep 76-44, Tuesday.

Pekarek finished with a team-high 23 points and senior Garrett Wolf trailed closely with 19 points and four assists.

Seniors Andy Nelson and Avery Smieja and junior Dylan Zimmerman all scored eight points, senior Matt Abeler picked up six and senior Nick Frieler contributed four.

Upsala went a staggering 17-of-19 at the free-throw line, with Pekarek draining all 11 of his attempts.

Royalton only made 1-of-14 threes, but turned in a sturdy defensive effort to trip up visiting Onamia 49-44 and snap the Panthers’ five-game win streak.

Seniors Luke Wentland (14), Matt Silbernick (13) and Justin Opatz (10) reached double figures to lead the Royals offensively, with senior Lucas Snyder chipping in six points and senior Stephen Strusz adding four.

“(We) had a solid defensive effort, enough to overcome some sub-par outside shooting,” Royalton head coach Randy Thielges said.

 

Browerville 61, Swanville 50

Swanville couldn’t find the same fortune trying to overturn a narrow defeat from earlier in the season as it did in its previous game against sixth-ranked Browerville, Tuesday, falling 61-50 at home.

The Bulldogs fell behind early and were forced to try and play catch-up the rest of the game against the Tigers, never able to take the lead despite numerous comeback attempts.

Browerville jumped ahead 6-0 out of the gates as it built a 19-9 edge.

Swanville closed within one possession with a 9-2 run, but the Tigers went ahead 30-20 at the half with a last-second three.

Browerville maintained the momentum at the start of the second half, working its lead to as many as 18 at 52-34.

Swanville worked the gap down to eight at 54-46 with 2:19 to play with a fierce full-court press, but was forced to foul down the stretch.

 

Sartell-St. Stephen 65, Little Falls 44

Sartell-St. Stephen limited visiting Little Falls to 13 first-half points on its way to a 65-44 win in a battle for the top seed in Sub-Section 8AAA South, Tuesday.

Eckman led the Flyers with 16 points, senior Spencer Lubbers scored nine and Jake Scott and Troy Scott each picked up five.
