Area girls basketball: Little Falls tops Mora, Maranatha escapes Upsala for second time

Little Falls 45, Mora 39

Senior Jamie Jenks scored 21 points as Little Falls overcame a narrow halftime deficit to take down visiting Mora 45-39, Tuesday.

Junior Gabby Nouis finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine boards, while sophomore Kendra Pohlman contributed eight points and five rebounds.

Maranatha Christian 67, Upsala 63

For the second time this season, Upsala stormed to a big halftime lead against second-ranked and two-time defending state champion Maranatha Christian, Tuesday.

But for the second time, the host Mustangs escaped with a come-from-behind win, holding off Upsala 67-63.

Senior Tracy Herzog led Upsala in the paint, putting up 23 points and eight rebounds.

Senior Alissa Zehrer picked up 12 points, sophomore Brooke Westrich produced nine points and 10 rebounds and senior Aimee Pelzer dished out seven assists.

The Cardinals led 33-20 at halftime before Maranatha caught fire with 47 second-half points.

 

Maple Lake 54, Pierz 52

Maple Lake hit a last-second three to knock off visiting Pierz 54-52, Tuesday.

Bednar led the Pioneers with 19 points, seven rebounds and four steals.

Alyssa Boser and Carter each picked up eight points and senior Megan Boser finished with five points and seven assists.

Pierz lost Rocheleau early in the game to an injury and had to contend with foul trouble throughout the second half.
