Ponthieux charged with failure to register as an offender
James Brandon Ponthieux, 32, Crosby, was charged Feb. 7, with one felony count of violating registration requirements as a predatory offender.
On Jan. 30, 2012, Ponthieux was convicted of first degree criminal sexual conduct. As a result of his conviction, he was required to register as a predatory offender for a period of 10 years following his release from jail with a probation agent or law enforcement where he is residing.
On Feb. 6, the Royalton Police Department was informed that Ponthieux may be residing in Royalton.
According to the criminal complaint, an officer then went to the residence, where Ponthieux was present. He admitted to staying at the residence approximately one to two times a month and that he had stayed at that residence for three nights. Another adult at the residence stated that Ponthieux had lived at the residence a few nights a week since Oct. 2012. Ponthieux was placed under arrest for failing to register at that address.
If convicted, Ponthieux faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
