obit---JurekIrene T. Jurek, a resident of Foley, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, Feb. 21, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Duelm, with the Rev. Virgil Helmin officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Irene Jurek was born Oct. 17, 1919, in Gilman, to Joseph and Anna (Spiczka) Smelter. She married Roy R. Jurek Nov. 10, 1941, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Morrill. The couple had lived in Oakland, Calif. before moving to Benton County where they farmed. She loved her girl trips with her sisters and later her daughters. Irene liked gardening, canning, raising flowers, knitting and crocheting. She enjoyed going on four-wheeler rides around the farm with Roy. She loved her family. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church where she was a member of the Christian Mothers.
She is survived by her sons and daughters, Carol McNeal of St. Joseph, Robert (Judy) of St. Cloud, Diane Hansgen of St. Joseph, Curt (Mary) of Foley and Cindi (Lyden) Moe of St. Cloud; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother and sisters, Clarence Smelter of Sauk Rapids, Betty Swedziak of Sartell and and Patsy Studniski of Rogers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy R. Jurek, Dec. 9, 2008; parents, son-in-law, Earl McNeal; sisters and brother, Tina Plombon, Delores Dumonceaux and Severin Smelter.
Irene’s family would like to thank the Foley Nursing Home, the ICU and 5 North  for all their kindness and care.
