Gail Marie Virnig was born Sept. 24, 1957, in Little Falls, the daughter of Jerry and Pat (Skwira) Virnig. As a child born with cerebral palsy, she was a representative for the local Cerebral Palsy chapter in Little Falls. She grew up in the Little Falls area and attended school graduating from Little Falls High School, class of 1976. She continued her education at St. Cloud Technical College and graduated with a degree in early childhood development. Gail was employed at Christus Group Home, DAC and White Shell, all in Little Falls. She especially enjoyed working with mentally challenged people. Gail enjoyed traveling, especially with her fiancé, Mike Hawkins. She also enjoyed pets (especially cats), fishing in her younger years, plants and bird watching. She always enjoyed spending time with family and friends and visiting on the phone, especially with her Aunt Rita. It didn’t take a lot to make Gail happy. She most appreciated the simple things in life. A special thank you goes out to all her caregivers through the years, especially Lisa and Marlene. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her fiancé, Mike Hawkins; parents, Jerry and Pat Virnig; brothers, Paul (Kim) Virnig and David (Janet) Virnig; two nieces, Stephanie Virnig and Marley Virnig and nephew, Mitchell Virnig; close cousin, Rachel (Dean) Schilling and family and many other aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Gail was preceded in death by her grandparents, John and Kathryn Virnig and Connie and Paul Skwira.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be donated to Gail’s favorite charities.
