The Little Falls Area Chamber of Commerce has named Al Windsperger the March Employee of the Month. Windsperger works at Little Falls Radio as the sports director and the WYRQ morning host.

“I coordinate local games with Little Falls Radio’s three stations, KLTF, WYRQ and KFML,” he said. “Those stations also carry the Twins games and a partial Gopher schedule.”

Al Windsperger was named the March 2013 Employee of the Month by the Little Falls Area Chamber of Commerce. Windsperger is employed at the Little Falls Radio.

As the morning host on WYRQ, Windsperger interviews all sorts of people on all sorts of subjects. Some are local, some are passing through the area and some interviews are done via the telephone.

“I interview people with interesting stories,” he said.

Windsperger said he enjoys the connection he makes with people through the airways.

“I’m in their radio and connect with those listening, even though I may never meet them,” he said.

Chris Grams, the manager of Little Falls Radio, said, “In 1990, Al started to wake people up in Central Minnesota and he has been brightening days ever since. Al has managed local sports play-by-play flawlessly, encouraging athletes, coaches, broadcasters and board operators for more than two decades. His passion for sports is appreciated by all — teachers, parents, students and radio enthusiasts. We are proud that Al Windsperger is part of the Little Falls Radio team.”

Windsperger was born in Minneapolis, during “a simpler time,” he said. He graduated from Robbinsdale High School where he learned he wanted to get into radio. But instead, he joined the Navy and had a family started by the time he was 20 years old.

With that family to support, he worked full-time and did part-time deejay work. He also found time to go to Brown Institute in Minneapolis for his broadcasting degree.

Windsperger’s first radio job was in Wisconsin with WCCN. He was there for six years. From there, he came to Little Falls and, as he said, “The rest is history.”

“I enjoy Little Falls, the town, the people and the sports. I love doing my job every week and am grateful for having the opportunity to talk with people for a living,” he said. “All that is easy, when you have someone as inspiring as Jane Meyer, my life’s partner, in my life.”

For being named the Employee of the Month, Windsperger received gift certificates from Cabin Fever, Perkin’s, Broadway Stylists and Falls Floral, a cookbook from St. Gabriel’s Hospital Hospice Program and will have his photo taken by Silker Studio.
