Josephine J. (Block) Hoheisel a resident of Pierz, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Meadow Ponds Assisted Living in Pierz.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, March 8, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz, with Father Kenneth Popp officiating. Burial took place in St. Joseph’s Parish Cemetery.
Josephine (Josie) Hoheisel was born in Lastrup, Feb. 14, 1920, to Gerhard and Mary (Nagel) Block. She was married to Raymond Hoheisel Nov. 16, 1940, in Lastrup. They farmed three miles east of Lastrup and retired to Pierz in 1974. Josie enjoyed her flowers, gardening, decorating for the holidays, playing cards and dice with friends and volunteering with the Pierz Lions Club, Pierz Villa and Area Food Shelf.
Survivors include sons, Ray (Laurie) of Cambridge, Riley (Linda) of Ridgefield, Wash., Ron (Ann Marie) of Marine on the St. Croix, Rod of Centerville and Ryan (Valarie) of Pierz; daughters, Sherry (Bob) Meadors of Great Falls, Mont., Mary Jo (Terry) Pohlkamp of Scandia, and Cindy (Jim) Lawrence of Minnetonka; brother, Werner (Bea) of Royalton; sister, Marianne Tormey of Portland, Ore.; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; infant daughter, Carol Ann; grandson, Trevor Hoheisel; parents, Gerhard and Mary Block; brothers, Alfred, Herman and Raymond; infant brother, Henry; sisters, Frieda Boser, Stella Bennett and Clara Marie Valentine.
Honorary pallbearers were Marlene Johnson, Jean Sauer, Deloris Marschel and St. Joseph’s Christian Mothers. Active pallbearers were Josephine’s grandchildren, Michael, Jennifer, Shawn, Brandon, Leah, Daniel, Amber, Grant, Jonathan, Mitchell, Christopher, Krystal, Jacob and Tommy.
The family would like to add a special note of appreciation to the staff at Meadow Ponds and Heartland Hospice for the loving and compassionate care they provided our mother.
