Little Falls’ Section 8AAA quarterfinal match-up at Alexandria, Wednesday, started out much like the regular season meeting.
Points were at a premium and neither team was able to create much separation from the other.
But like the first encounter, Alexandria was able to edge away down the stretch, forcing the Flyers into fouling in the closing minutes to earn a 66-51 victory.
After the Flyers led early, the Cardinals came back to take a four-point advantage at 22-18 into the break.
Alexandria extended its lead to 35-28 before Little Falls closed back within one at 35-34 midway through the second.
The Flyers were unable to grab the lead, though, as Alexandria staved off numerous rally attempts before finally putting the game away at the free-throw line.
Lubbers had 16 points and Eckman posted 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists to lead Little Falls.
Jake Scott and sophomore Bryce Zawatzke each picked up six points, Troy Scott scored five and senior Travis Spillum had three points and seven rebounds.
Little Falls finished the season with a 19-8 overall record, including a 14-2 mark in the Granite Ridge Conference to win the GRC title.
Seniors on this year’s team included Jake Scott, Josh Wenzel, Collin Gradin, Travis Spillum, Eckman and Lubbers.
