To the Editor:
In the immortal words of Ronald Reagan: “There they go again.”
Due to the sequester, Barack Obama has closed White House tours, claiming the move is to save money. White House tour guides are volunteers. They don’t get paid, so how is sending unpaid volunteers home going to save the government money?
Just like Gov. Mark Dayton did during the state government shutdown a few years ago, Obama wants to shut down the parts of the government which will hurt the people the most so he can make people angry and then blame it on the Republicans.
It is nothing but a sleazy, despicable, political tactic. Instead of having an honest conversation on reining in deficit spending, Obama chooses to have a temper tantrum, then hold the people hostage.
There is no such thing as a permanent reduction in spending. Every budget is subject to the next Congress or Legislature. The problem is that the Democratically-controlled U.S. Senate has not passed a budget bill in over four years. It is high time the Democratically-controlled Senate mans up and does the job they were elected to do.
