Boys Basketball: Upsala advances to sub-section finals, Royalton game postponed
A night after the Upsala girls team qualified for state, the Upsala boys moved another step closer to joining them, defeating Nevis 72-57 in the Sub-Section 5A West semifinals in Long Prairie, Saturday.
Upsala started fast, sprinting to a 7-0 lead, but Nevis quickly answered, tying the score at 9-9.
Upsala worked its lead into double digits, going ahead 34-24 at the half, only for Nevis to claw its way back within a possession at 44-42.
The Cardinals didn’t allow the Tigers to take the lead, though, wearing down Nevis as they pulled away down the stretch for the win.
Upsala will now square off with Browerville for the third time this season in Tuesday’s sub-section final.
The unbeaten Cardinals have handed Browerville its only two losses of the season.
Royalton was also scheduled to be in action Saturday in the Sub-Section 5A East semifinals against Onamia in Mora, but the game was postponed until Monday due to inclement weather.
